CM Revanth unveils plan to position Hyderabad as role model for sports in India

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious plan to position Hyderabad as a role model for the country in the field of sports.

To start with, the government is focusing on transforming Gachibowli Stadium into one of the world’s finest sporting venues.

He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to achieve this goal.

High-level review meeting held

The Chief Minister chaired a review meeting with representatives of the Telangana Sports Hub to discuss the roadmap for the development of Gachibowli Stadium.

The meeting was attended by Sports Hub Chairman Sanjiv Goenka, Co-Chairperson Upasana Konidela, members Kavya Maran and C. Shashidhar, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Sports Authority of Telangana Managing Director Soni Bala.

Foundation stone on Telangana Formation Day

Revanth Reddy announced that the foundation stone for the stadium’s redevelopment will be laid on Telangana Formation Day on June 2. He instructed officials to finalize a detailed and time-bound action plan ahead of the event.

World-class infrastructure planned

Emphasizing global standards, the Chief Minister said the upgraded stadium should include world-class facilities, including a helipad to enable direct helicopter access for sportspersons from the airport.

He stressed that the infrastructure must surpass international benchmarks, including those in leading sporting nations.

Focus on financial sustainability.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of ensuring long-term financial sustainability of the stadium.

Plans are being designed to make the venue economically viable while maintaining top-tier standards. An architect has already been appointed for the project.

Vision to host global sporting events

Reiterating his long-term vision, Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad should develop facilities capable of hosting major international events, including the Olympics.

He also suggested installing large screens and modern amenities to attract large audiences, particularly from the city’s IT and professional communities.

“The board will have full freedom in developing the stadium. Our goal is the overall growth of sports in Telangana, with infrastructure that meets and exceeds global standards,” he said.
