Hyderabad: BRS working president KTR accuses Congress govt of betraying farmers by limiting Rythu Bharosa to Rs 12,000 per acre, per year

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused the Congress government of betraying Telangana farmers by limiting Rythu Bharosa support to Rs 12,000 per acre per year, rather than the promised Rs 15,000.

Responding to the State Cabinetā€™s decision on Rythu Bharosa, he alleged that Congress failed to adopt even a single farmer-centric policy despite repeated requests. He also demanded that the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Revanth Reddy apologise to 70 lakh Telangana farmers for deceiving them by reducing the investment support.

KTR calls for state-wide farmersā€™ protest

Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Bhavan here on Sunday, KTR called upon the farmers and party cadre to protest against the Congress governmentā€™s ā€˜betrayalā€™ on January 6 (Monday). He said demonstrations in support of the farming community will be held in all district, mandal and constituency headquarters.

KTR said that the Congress party gave false promises to the people just for votes and said that he knew Rythu Bharosa would be stopped for farmers after the State completes its local body elections. He recalled that as the then-TPCC president, CM Revanth promised farmers Rs 15,000 per acre per year and an extra Rs 12,000 per year for farm labourers.

ā€˜Where is Rahul Gandhi?ā€™

ā€œThe Congress is synonymous with fraud and deceit,ā€ he remarked, comparing the party to a useless relative who is a burden on the family. He called CM Revanth Reddy ā€˜a traitor to the farmers.ā€™

ā€œRahul Gandhi said he will come immediately if the people of Telangana are suffering. Now, where is Rahul Gandhi now that the Congress government itself is deceiving Telangana farmers like this? The farmers will never forgive the Congress party,ā€ said KTR.

The BRS leader also recalled that CM Revanth Reddy said that Telangana was the richest State in the country when he was in the Opposition and now after coming to power, the latter is spreading the word that the State is in debt.

ā€˜The Congress promised to implement the six guarantees in 100 days. It didnā€™tā€™

ā€œThe Congress party has deceived the people of Telangana that the six guarantees will be implemented within 100 days. However, they have not been fulfilled. CM Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues are also hoodwinking the people by just making statements on the implementation,ā€ he said and added that the economic condition of the State is stable, while the 'mental condition of the Congress leaders is not good.'

Taking a jibe at the Congress government, the BRS leader also said that false cases are being filed against the Opposition leaders to suppress their voice for highlighting the failures in implementing the poll promises to the public.

ā€˜HYDRAA and Musi project has affected Hyderabadā€™s real estateā€™

ā€œWhat is the status of the '420 guarantees' made by the Congress party? It is CM Revanth Reddyā€™s government that has ruined the financial situation of the State through unmindful decisions like HYDRAA and the Musi Rejuvenation project which has started a cascading effect on the real estate sector in Hyderabad,ā€ KTR said.

ā€˜Congress govt borrowed Rs 1.38 lakh crore in one yearā€™

The BRS leader pointed out that the Congress government had borrowed nearly Rs 1.38 lakh crore, including both guaranteed and non-guaranteed loans during its one-year rule in the State.

During the previous BRS regime, the government incurred debts as it executed several development activities in the State. ā€œWhat development activities did the Congress government take up after he (CM Revanth) came to power? New investments are not coming to the State and the existing companies are moving away to other States following the statements made by CM Revanth about its financial situation,ā€ he said.

ā€˜CM Revanth insulted Telangana's accomplishmentsā€™

The BRS working president criticised CM Revanth for claiming that Telangana, particularly the condition of government employees, was better off in former united Andhra Pradesh, calling it an insult to the Stateā€™s accomplishments.

ā€œUnder KCRā€™s rule, Telangana paid the highest wages to employees and completed transformational projects such as the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and Mission Bhagiratha. CM Revanthā€™s unfounded assertions highlight the Congressā€™s lack of ideas and leadership,ā€ he remarked.

Speaking about the former BRS governmentā€™s track record, he claimed that over Rs 1 lakh crore was spent on programs such as Rythu Bandhu and crop loan waivers during K Chandrashekhar Raoā€™s tenure. ā€œWhile KCR will be remembered as a farmerā€™s true ally, CM Revanth has turned out to be their worst enemy,ā€ he said.
