Cultural Refresh: Telangana to revise State emblem, statue, song

Telangana: The Telangana Cabinet sub-committee was constituted on Tuesday to finalise the design and structure of the State emblem, statue and song. The decision was taken during a meeting at the Secretariat in Hyderabad under the chairmanship of deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated that the emblem should reflect the democratic aspirations of the people and imbibe the culture and traditions of the state. The symbols of feudalism, autocracy and dictatorship should have no place in the emblem, he said.

ā€œThe statue should reflect the common women of the state. Regarding the state song, noted poet Andesri should be invited to take up certain modifications to the ā€˜Jaya Jaya Heyā€™ song to reflect the contemporary times,ā€ said Bhatti Vikramarka.

The officials were asked to shortlist eminent artists and intellectuals and explain the concept so that they could come out with designs for the emblem and statue.

What are design specifications for State symbols?

The State emblem, song and statue should contain those elements that reflect the entire state.

- The emblem should contain replicas of Nagarjuna Sagar dam and other such important iconic images.

- The state emblem should be redesigned without hurting the sentiments of any community or sect and by carrying forward the opinion of the majority.

- The state song should represent all the districts.

- The statue should be redesigned to reflect the image of a Telangana woman depicting the stateā€™s culture and traditional values.
