Dealer-point vehicle registration: Here is how new system works in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Department has rolled out a `dealer-point vehicle registration system', allowing buyers of two-wheelers and cars to complete the entire registration process at authorised showrooms.

The new facility applies to vehicles purchased from Saturday.

Pilot test successful

Following a policy decision taken on January 8 to simplify vehicle registration, the Transport Commissioner directed that the required software be developed within 15 days.

The system was successfully tested on a pilot basis on Friday at Sri Krishna Automotives, where a four-wheeler (Elevate ZX MT) was registered and delivered to the owner through the new process.

With the pilot proving successful, the department confirmed statewide rollout from Saturday.

How the new system works

Under the dealer-point registration mechanism:

The authorised dealer submits the permanent registration application online on behalf of the buyer.

All required documents, invoice, Form 21, Form 22, insurance, address proof, vehicle photographs, and others, are uploaded digitally by the dealer.

A Transport Department official scrutinises the application and allocates the registration number.

The Registration Certificate (RC) is dispatched directly to the vehicle owner via Speed Post.

Benefits to vehicle buyers

The new process is expected to deliver multiple benefits:

Significant time savings for buyers.

No need to visit RTO offices, reducing inconvenience.

Faster and more transparent registration procedures.

Oversight and Inspections

To ensure compliance, Transport Department officials may conduct random inspections at authorised dealerships. The department clarified that these checks will not cause inconvenience to the public.

Scope of the facility

Applicable only to two-wheelers and cars.

Not applicable to commercial (transport) vehicles.

Applies only to vehicles purchased on or after January 24, 2026.

Statewide Awareness Drive

The Transport Commissioner has conducted an online review meeting with transport officials from all 33 districts, briefing them on implementation. Dealers with queries have been advised to contact their respective district transport offices for clarification.

The Telangana government said the initiative marks a key step towards simpler, digital, and efficient transport services, bringing greater convenience to citizens.
