Earthquake measuring 3.1 on Richter scale hits Vikarabad; no loss of life, property reported

Hyderabad: An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale hit the Vikarabad district of Telangana in the wee hours of August 14.

Tremors were felt at 3.56 AM on August 14. According to the National Centre of Seismology, the depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers.

The tremors were felt especially in the Southeastern parts of the district. After heavy rains, tremors of this magnitude can be expected-say experts. In the wee hours of Thursday, residents, especially from Rangapur, Barlapalli, and Nayamath Nagar villages, felt the tremors. However, there was no loss of life or property.

Former NGRI Scientist Nagesh told NewsMeter that usually, after a heavy downpour, one can expect seismic activity. We have seen a similar quake in Balanagar and parts of Cyberabad after heavy rains.

Last Year, around the same month

An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale jolted Warangal on 25th August 2024. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers.

This incident came on the heels of a minor temblor in the Manuguru Mandal on August 19.

The earthquake details

The earthquake, which struck at 4:43 a.m., was located 127 kilometers east of Warangal. Its epicenter had a latitude of 18.04 and a longitude of 80.80. The tremors sent ripples of concern through the affected areas and left residents wondering about the causes and implications of these events.
