Ex-Andhra Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu arrested in actress Kadambari Jethwanis harassment case

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Police on Tuesday arrested former state Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu in Hyderabad in the actress Kadambari Jethwani harassment case.

The officer is one of three senior IPS officers who were suspended for their alleged involvement in the wrongful arrest and harassment of Mumbai-based actress and model Kadambari Jethwani, reportedly without a proper investigation.

The officer is currently under suspension.

On September 13, 2024, the actress cum model Kadambari Jetwani filed a case at the Ibrahimpatnam police station in Vijayawada, prompting the city police to register a case under section 192, 211, 218, 220, 354 (D), 467, 420 of IPC and others.

Kadambari Jetwani made allegations that a YSRCP leader from Krishna deceived her under the false pretence of marriage.

Following this, he, with the help of influential IPS officers, threatened her and her family members, as per the case details.

Reports said, the YSRCP leader filed a complaint against Kadambari, accusing the actor and her family of criminal conspiracy and other charges. A police team from Vijayawada reportedly went to Mumbai and arrested the actor and her parents and brought them to Vijayawada.

Speaking to the media on several occasions, the actor alleged that some of the top IPS officers during the YSRCP rule tortured her family members, forcibly entered her house, and seized their phones and documents. The police have lodged false cases against her, kept her in jail, and subjected her to harassment for around six months, she had said.

IPS officers suspended:

In 2024, Andhra Pradesh government also suspended three IPS officers--- Vishal Gunni, the then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada Police Commissionerate, Kanthi Rana Tata, the then Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada and P Sitharama Anjaneyulu, the then Director General of Police, Intelligence, following allegations of their involvement in case allegedly foisted against a Mumbai actor.

As per the inquiry report, these three IPS officers failed to supervise the investigation properly. They did not ensure that the complaint was thoroughly examined and an essential investigation was carried out before issuing instructions to proceed with arrests.
