While land disputes are said to be the motive behind the murder, the police suspect the involvement of his close associates.
The judgement in a land dispute case that had been pending for a long time in a local court was delivered two days ago. It was in Swamy's favour. The land is located in a prime location and now is worth crores. This also gives strength to police's suspicion that close associates are involved in the TDP leader's murder.
On Thursday morning, Swamy was out on a morning walk when two unidentified people on a motorbike approached him and hacked him with blunt weapons, killing him on the spot. Other morning walkers saw him lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and identified Swamy.
The police have registered a murder case and started an investigation. They are also analyzing the CCTV cameras in the vicinity and verifying the details of his close associates. They have also collected the details of the opposite party who was fighting the disputed land case against Swamy.
The former councillor's body was handed over to the family amid high security after a post-mortem that was conducted at the Government District Hospital.
