Expect thunderstorms for Ugadi and Ramzan, says IMD forecast for Telangana

Hyderabad: Brace yourself for a wet Ugadi and Ramzan. As Telangana prepares for the festive season, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert, predicting thunderstorms across several districts during the upcoming holidays.
According to the latest weather bulletin released by the IMD on March 13, for the next couple of days, March 13 and 14 are expected to remain dry. However, the weather would start changing from March 15 and continue its impact till March 19, 2026.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert warning, urging residents to stay updated as the festive days may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

By March 16, the alert expands to cover nearly the entire state, including Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool.

The IMD forecast suggests that the impact would be widespread across the state.
On March 15, the weather department expects thunderstorms in districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sirisilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Medak and Kamareddy.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is also issued for March 16 and 17 in Hyderabad in almost all the zones, including Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad and Serilingampally. The warning suggests that thundershowers would be accompanied by gusty winds, and light to moderate rains can be expected.
Why the sudden change in weather?
The reason for this change in weather is a trough, a specific type of weather system, that has formed stretching from the Jharkhand region to the Vidarbha region, at about 0.9 km above the ground.
In simple terms, this system is creating instability in the atmosphere, which creates the perfect conditions for clouds to build up and trigger the upcoming thunderstorms and rains.
