Family dispute: Owaisi Hospital surgeon Dr Mazheruddin Ali Khan dies by suicide

Hyderabad: Dr. Mazheruddin Ali Khan, an orthopaedic surgeon at Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre, died by suicide on Monday afternoon. He shot himself on the forehead, according to the police. He was rushed to the hospital and was declared dead.

Dr. Mazhar’s son is married to the second daughter of Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and president of the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He is also the classmate of cricketer Mohamed Azharuddin.

Dr. Mazhar is the younger brother of the managing editor of Siasat Urdu newspaper Zaheruddin Ali Khan. He was closely associated with both AIMIM brothers Akbaruddin Owaisi and Asaduddin Owaisi. His death has shocked many. He killed himself with his licensed gun, the police said.

Arguments were heard by neighbours

According to the neighbours at Banjara Hills MLA Colony where Dr. Mazhar's family resides there were constant arguments in the family in the last three months. These were too loud that alerted the neighbours who were privy to it. The gunshot was also heard by the neighbours who were alarmed by the development.

Property dispute and court cases

There were property disputes within the family and due to that there were cases in the courts. The investments in property went haywire and as the money was from Dr. Mazhar’s wife’s family it led to a lot of confrontation. In the last three months, the court orders also went against them which further escalated the problem, according to sources.

Police investigation begins

Speaking to the media, DCP West Zone Joel Davis said "He shot himself with his licensed weapon. Clues teams are investigating the incident. We are requested for video-graphic post mortem by the doctors. Earlier, the doctor has property and family related disputes. But we are to ascertain the reason for his suicide."
