According to sources, Kiran Chand, the lone son of Mallareddy Mohan and Girija Kalyani, suffered severe headache while writing his class X examination. He was taken to a private hospital in Srikakulam and later, he wrote his exams again.

On 15 April, Kiran fell sick while he was writing his last exam. He was immediately taken to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.

Later, he was shifted to GEMS Hospital in Srikakulam when his condition deteriorated. He fought for his life for more than a week and then went brain-dead.

His parents decided to donate his organs to save the lives of others. Following this, authorities sent one of his kidneys to Apollo Hospital in Visakhapatnam and the other to KIMS Hospital in Visakhapatnam. His heart was sent to Tirupati and his eyes to the Red Cross Society in Vizianagaram.

“He might have been stressed due to the examinations. He had internal bleeding in the brain. When doctors said he could be brain dead, the parents decided to donate his organs. This is first such organ donation in Srikakulam,” said Seetha Mahalakshmi, chairperson of Savitribai Phule Educational and Charitable Trust, Visakhapatnam.
