Former DGP Mahender Reddy appointed as TSPSC chairman

Hyderabad: Former DGP M Mahender Reddy has been appointed as Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) chairman. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has approved his appointment on Thursday.

Former IPS officer Anitha Rajendram (IAS), Palvai Rajani Kumar, Amir Ullah Khan, Narri Yadaiah and Y Rammohan Rao have been appointed as members of the commission.

Former chairman B Janardhan Reddy and the members of TSPSC resigned on December 10, 2023. Janardhan Reddy visited chief minister A Revanth Reddy and expressed his displeasure over the functioning of the TSPSC. After that, he tendered his resignation to chief secretary Shanthi Kumari. The resignation was accepted by the chief secretary and was forwarded to governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.




50 names were shortlisted

Revanth Reddy was keen to restructure the Telangana State Public Service Commission. After the cancellation of exams, there has been a lot of bad will and the functioning of TSPSC has been questioned. Recruitment for jobs is an election promise of the Telangana Congress government.

Around 371 applications have been received for these positions, with more than 50 for the post of chairman, which the chief secretary examined. Only Mahender Reddy’s name was forwarded to the governor for consideration.

Mahender Reddy was the second and former director general of police of Telangana since April 10, 2018. He previously served as the first police commissioner of Hyderabad after the formation of Telangana.

Mahendar Reddy, a civil engineer from NIT Warangal was selected for IPS while pursuing M Tech at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Public Personnel Management from Osmania University during his service. He obtained his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad in 2020.

He was the CP (Commissioner of Police) of Hyderabad City. Reddy also served as a faculty member at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy and has gone on study tours to the USA and the UK to acquaint himself with police systems in those countries.
