The former Telangana chief secretary, Somesh Kumar, who was shifted to Andhra Pradesh, applied for voluntary retirement.
Somesh Kumar, a 1989 batch IPS officer from Bihar, was at loggerheads with DoPT after he was allotted the Andhra Pradesh cadre when the state was bifurcated. Though he got a stay from CAT in March 2016, the Telangana High Court quashed the order. Later, DoPT asked him to report to Andhra Pradesh.
He also met Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and chief secretary Jawahar Reddy. However, Kumar had made up his mind to opt for voluntary retirement.
As per updated norms, a state government can accept VRS without the centerās clearance. So, he has come to Andhra Pradesh just to meet CM Jagan Mohan Reddy so that he accepts his VRS. However, considering his seniority, the Andhra Pradesh government found it difficult to allocate him any suitable post though they tried their best.
