From March 13 onwards, Car, bike registration across Telangana will be digital

Hyderabad: In a major move to streamline vehicle registration and reduce processing delays, the Telangana Transport Department on Thursday announced that it is moving to a fully digital, paperless system.

This is applicable for the permanent registration of all non-transport vehicles, including motorcycles and cars. With this move, the traditional practice of physical submission of documents by dealers will be discontinued, stated the department.

The official announcement regarding the same was made by the department on Thursday and would be implemented from March 13 (Friday).

What will be the changes to the registration process?

According to the official press note released by the Transport Commissioner, the following guidelines will come into effect tomorrow:

1. No more physical submission: Dealers are no longer required to send physical copies of Form-20 or other supporting documents to RTA offices via speed post or courier.

2. Digital uploads mandatory: All dealers must now scan and upload the signed copies of Form-20 and other required documents directly to the online portal. This applies to all vehicles with Temporary Registration (TR) issued on or after March 13.

Vehicles that received TR before March 13 are also eligible for this online permanent registration process. Dealers can upload the necessary scanned documents to complete the registration.

The Transport Department has emphasised that dealers will be held fully responsible for the authenticity of the uploaded documents. Submission of fake or forged documents will attract criminal proceedings.

Strict deadlines for officials and dealers

To ensure the system remains efficient, the department has set strict timelines for both dealers and RTA officials:

Official Approval: RTA officers are mandated to process, review or approve online applications within two working days of submission. The department has warned of strict action against officials found causing delays.

Dealer Compliance: Dealers have been instructed not to keep any applications pending in their login for more than seven days. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of their digital login credentials and further disciplinary action.

All authorised automobile dealers in Telangana have been directed to strictly adhere to these new online protocols for permanent vehicle registration, starting from March 13.
