`Ganapathi Bappa Morya, Kaavalayya Urea’: KTR stages protest with empty bags, blasts Revanth govt

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday came down heavily on the Congress government over the prevailing fertilizer crisis in Telangana.

Leading a symbolic protest with empty urea bags at the Amaraveerula Stupam in Gun Park here, KTR accused the ruling party of betraying farmers during a crucial cropping season.

Farmers forced into queues

KTR said that under the Congress, farmers were being forced to stand in long queues, even during festivals, to procure urea.

“For ten years under KCR’s leadership, not a single day witnessed such shortages. Why are farmers lining up with Aadhaar cards and tokens, and getting drenched in the rain for fertilizers?” he questioned.

Protesters raised slogans such as “Ganapathi Bappa Morya, Kaavalayya Urea” and demanded the government’s resignation.

Call for extended Assembly debate

Emphasising the seriousness of the crisis, KTR demanded that the Assembly session run for at least 15 days to allow discussions on farmers’ issues.

“We are ready to answer on any subject, from agriculture and welfare schemes to irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram, the world’s largest lift irrigation project,” he said.

Agrarian distress unaddressed

KTR alleged that the Congress government was ignoring the real problems faced by farmers.

“More than 600 farmers have taken their lives, and 75 lakh cultivators are in deep distress. Yet the government is avoiding debate on crop loss and farmer suicides,” he said.

He accused the Congress of failing to deliver on its promises, including the six guarantees and over 400 other assurances made during the elections.

Student and welfare issues

The BRS leader also demanded that the Assembly take up the issue of pending fee reimbursement arrears, which, he said, were severely affecting students. He insisted that discussions be extended to flood losses, welfare shortfalls, and the government’s failure in ensuring timely farm input supply.

On disqualification of MLAs

Touching upon the disqualification of rebel MLAs, KTR said the process was underway and that it was up to the Speaker to decide. “We will wait and see what decision is taken,” he remarked.

Dig at Congress leadership

Ridiculing the government over the PC Ghosh Commission, KTR quipped that it was nothing but a “PCC Ghosh Commission” devised by the ruling party. “We are prepared to counter the Congress on that as well,” he added.
