'Ghanan Ghanan Gir Gir Aaye…': Except few areas, IMD forecasts normal rains across India in July
Below-normal rainfall is most likely over many areas of the northwest, northeast, and southeast peninsular India.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 1 July 2023 5:02 AM GMTTelangana: Monsoon rainfall in the country in July is most likely to be normal (94 to 106 % of the Long Period Average (LPA).
In the Indian Meteorological Department report, the spatial distribution suggests that normal to above normal rainfall is most likely over most areas of central India and adjoining south peninsular and east India and some areas of Northeast and Northwest India.
Below-normal rainfall is most likely over many areas of the northwest, northeast, and southeast peninsular India.
Normal Max Temp
According to the IMD, temperatures during July will be normal to above normal maximum temperatures and are likely to be over most parts of the country except some areas of northwest and peninsular India where below normal maximum temperatures are likely.
Normal to above normal minimum temperatures are likely to be in most parts of the country except some areas of northwest India where below normal minimum temperatures are likely.
El-Nino conditions
"There are high probabilities for the development of El Niño conditions over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions over the Indian Ocean during July to September 2023," said the IMD report.
As sea surface temperature (SST) conditions over the Pacific and the Indian Oceans are known to have a strong influence on the Indian monsoon, IMD is carefully monitoring the evolution of sea surface conditions over these Ocean basins.
IMD will issue the forecast for the rainfall during the second half of the season (August+ September 2023) and for the month of August towards the end of July 2023.
