Ghar Wapsi: BRS MP Keshava Rao, daughter Vijayalakshmi to join Congress soon
Keshava Rao held a very senior position in the cadre and his entry into Congress would be like Ghar Vapsi.
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 28 March 2024 4:31 PM GMTHyderabad: BRS Rajya Sabha MP Keshava Rao and his daughter Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalakshmi are likely to join Congress tentatively on March 30. This will be a big jolt to the BRS in the run-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Speculations are Keshava Rao is holding a meeting with BRS Chief KCR.
According to the sources, Keshav Rao has recently met Deepa Das Munshi three days ago. However, Keshava Rao is yet to declare about he joining the party. Keshav Rao held a very senior position in the cadre and his entry into Congress would be like Ghar Vapsi.
In a statement on Thursday, Keshava Rao stated that he would soon go back to his own house Congress. "Congress party is my own house. Those who go on pilgrimages always reach home. I will also return to my own house Congress. I worked in Congress party for 53 years and worked in BRS for 10 years. I joined BRS for Telangana. It was the Congress party that gave Telangana."
"For the first time, I was elected to the Rajya Sabha with the second priority votes of the Congress. I was born and brought up in Congress. I want to die in that party. I have not resigned to BRS yet. I will announce about my joining soon," he stated.
However, his son, K Viplav Rao will be continuing in the BRS. It is also said that Former minister A Indrakaran Reddy will also soon join the Congress.
Keshava Rao joined the BRS (then TRS) in June 2013, and served as the party secretary general. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha for two terms and led the BRS Parliamentary party.
Rao has been a senior Congressmen, holding many high positions in the Party and Government. He and was elected as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee in 2005. Rao was a Cabinet Minister in the three consecutive governments in the state of Andhra Pradesh, holding important portfolios like Education, Industry and Labor.
In May 2013, Keshava Rao quit Indian National Congress, of which he was a senior person, as the party did not meet the deadline to take a decision on the issue of creation of a separate state of Telangana. He later joined TRS, now BRS.
Senior Congress leaders say that Keshav Rao coming back to the party will be a big boost to party morale in Telangana.
