Ghar Wapsi: Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy rejoins Congress

Hyderabad: Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Munugodu, has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and his decision to join the Indian National Congress. Rajagopal Reddy who has been airing his views against the BJP functioning for a long time, finally took the plunge to come back to his original party Congress.

Why the Ghar Vapsi?

The shift is to the state's ongoing search for an alternative to the ruling Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Reddy expressed his strong ambition to bring about change in Telangana by challenging the dominance of the KCR family, led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He observed that opposition to the government in the state has been steadily intensifying, underlining the growing demand for change among the people of Telangana. The BJP, which had emerged as an alternative force to BRS, appeared to face political challenges. The subsequent developments in the BJP had now forced people to look up to the Congress party.

The people of Telangana are now seeking an alternative in the form of the Indian National Congress.

Corrupt and undemocratic rule

Hitting out at the BRS, Rajagopal stated that the people of Telangana were fed up with the corrupt and undemocratic rule. He claimed that his fight was against this unjust rule. For that reason he had joined BJP. In the BJP, he had closely worked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda during the Munugode assembly by-election in October 2022. The closely contested battle, the loss was more of the party as it failed to create the desired alternative.

BJP failed to take action

There are lots of demands from the people to take action against KCR. ā€œBut the central government has failed to take action,ā€ he said. The mismanagement of the KCR government has been highlighted at various meetings and also internal discussions but the action is far from calling.

This constraint, has taken the people away from BJP and they are now looking at Congress to take the ā€˜desiredā€™ action.

Peopleā€™s wishes

ā€œI go with the wishes of the people,ā€ says Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy's on his decision to switch parties.

ā€œMy aim remains consistent: to free the state from a decade of corrupt, undemocratic, and anarchic rule of KCR government.ā€

Despite parting ways, Reddy expressed his gratitude to the BJP for providing him with the opportunity to challenge the dictatorial rule of the KCR government in the previous by-election. He extended his appreciation to Union Minister Amit Shah for encouraging him in this endeavour. While acknowledging his transition from BJP to Congress, he emphasized that his fundamental objective has always been the welfare of Telangana and not personal aspirations for political positions. ā€œI ask people for their support to fight the dictatorial rule of KCR and his family. There must be more promising and inclusive future for the state,ā€ he says.
