Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government has announced 25% concession in bus fare for all the senior citizens traveling in AP State Road Transport Corporation vehicles.

According to the GO, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will provide a 25% fare concession for 60-plus citizens in all types of buses.

Further, instructions were also issued to the bus drivers to accept proof of age either in physical form or digital form from the senior citizens at the time of purchase of ticket/ during their travel.

Senior citizens seeking the facility should invariably produce either an Aadhaar card, senior citizen ID card, PAN card, voter ID card, passport, or ration card (any one of these).

"Even though instructions are communicated, complaints are being received from Senior Citizens on non-acceptance of age-proof documents issued by other states (Aadhaar card, Voter ID, etc.,) and issuing full fare tickets by the operating crew resulting in severe hardship by Senior Citizens. Now, it is once again informed that Senior Citizens who have completed 60 years of age can avail 25% concession duly producing any proof of age," read the GO.

The authorities have also instructed all the field officers and supervisors to inform the staff through notice boards and gate meetings.

The idea of providing a 25% concession for senior citizens has been for many years but was restricted only to senior citizens of Andhra Pradesh. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 25% concession was stopped on May 21, 2020, as part of the efforts to control the spread of the virus.

From this year, the 25% concession is extended to senior citizens from any state traveling in Andhra Pradesh.
