Goodbye baarish: Southwest monsoon withdraws from Telangana

Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Telangana.

Some of the places in Telangana that received the last traces of shower include Dharmasagar in Hansmkonda (3mm), Sirpiru in Khammam (2mm), Khanapur in Warangal (1mm), and Gandeed in Mahabubnagar (1mm).

Fifteen districts received large excess rainfall from 1 to 21 October.

According to the IMD, conditions are favourable for the withdrawal of SW monsoon from the rest of the country during the next 48 hours. It has already withdrawn from some parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the IMD said from June to September 2021 (the official SW monsoon period), the cumulative rainfall in Telangana was 1,074 mm against the normal 734.8 mm. Compared to the previous year when there was excess rainfall of 39%, this year Telangana received excess rainfall of 46%. In June 2022, the state witnessed excess rainfall of 9%, in July, there was huge excess of 145%, and in September, there was 35% excess rainfall. In the month of August, there was a 20% fall in seasonal rainfall.
