Google to set up major data center in Visakhapatnam: CM Naidu

Amaravati: Following Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Google is now set to establish a major presence in Visakhapatnam, further positioning the city as a global data center hub.

Announcing the development on Monday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said, "Google is coming to Visakhapatnam. Vizag will become a global data center."

In December 2024, the State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with tech giant Google to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centre in Visakhapatnam. During a visit to the United States, IT Minister Nara Lokesh personally approached Google executives at their campus, inviting them to set up operations in Andhra Pradesh.

Google’s AI Drive:

In December 2025, the Global technology leader Google has identified a significant opportunity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Visakhapatnam. The Andhra Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google to enhance AI training in schools, colleges, and startups, and to boost sectors like healthcare and industries.

Under this collaboration, Google will integrate AI and Machine Learning (ML) solutions into key areas such as healthcare and environmental sustainability. The partnership will also focus on skill development and bridging the digital divide by offering resources and training to help citizens thrive in an AI-driven economy. Furthermore, Google aims to support the state's startup ecosystem, driving innovation and entrepreneurship in AI.

TCS to soon start facility:

It may be recalled that in April 2025, Minister for IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh has successfully piloted allotment of 21.16 acres in Visakhapatnam for TCS facility for 99 paisa. Nara Lokesh visited Tata House in October last year and made a strong pitch for TCS to set up a large development center in Andhra Pradesh. The company to invest Rs 1370 cr in this unit to create 12,000 jobs.
