Grassroots democracy: KCR delegates financial powers to Panchayats in Telangana

Hyderabad: Strengthening grassroots democracy, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has delegated financial powers to Gram Panchayats in the state. The decision was taken in a meeting with MLAs at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday. It was decided that Gram Panchayats can now utilize funds to meet the local needs.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the Telangana government is working actively towards empowering the local bodies. He said the government is keen on strengthening the basic infrastructure facilities in rural and urban areas.

The CM also decided to construct integrated markets in 142 Municipalities and Corporations. From veg to non-veg food and from fruits to flowers, all utility items will be sold in these markets.

He asked the administration to identify adequate sites for these markets. He asked the officials to make a layout in such a manner that women will have access to these markets.

The CM instructed TS Transco, Genco CMD Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao to remove overhead power lines in villages and urban areas at the government's cost.

He asked lawmakers to inspect the construction works of the Collectorates and SP offices. It has also been decided to construct additional police stations including Traffic Police posts. He wanted to raise women's police wings and asked the officials to prepare guidelines in this regard.

Meanwhile, works have been sanctioned pertaining to Rail Over Bridges in the urban areas where there are railway lines, Underpasses, widening of the roads, construction of the dividers, formation of Central Lightning System, Check dams on rivers and canals wherever they are necessary.

The CM instructed the officials from the Water Resources Department to ensure that crops would not wither away under the Krishna Godavari Basin.

Responding to requests from some MLAs, the CM instructed officials to release water for the Summer Crops. The CM instructed Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy to take measures to release water to the summer Crops under the Kollapur Assembly segment as requested by the local MLA. The CM also instructed officials to release water to the summer crops in Peddapally Constituency as requested by the local MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy.
