Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Tuesday annulled the March 10 Group-I exam ranking list and directed the TGPSC to re-evaluate scores.
The verdict comes after multiple petitions alleged irregularities in the evaluation process, affecting hundreds of aspirants across the state.
Re-evaluation to follow Supreme Court guidelines
The High Court has directed the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) to re-evaluate the Group-I exam scores in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives in the Sanjay vs UPSC case. The re-evaluation process is expected to be completed within eight months.
HC reviews arguments from all stakeholders
Justice Namvarapu Rajeshwar Rao, who heard extensive arguments on July 7, considered submissions from petitioners, the TGPSC, and qualified candidates.
The TGPSC defended its evaluation process, presenting evidence of mock evaluations using dummy answer books and submitting the original answer sheets in sealed covers to ensure transparency.
Qualified candidates oppose annulment
Counsel representing selected candidates highlighted that nearly 200 individuals across all categories, including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, women, and persons with disabilities, were involved in the matter. They argued against cancelling the results, asserting that the selection process had already progressed fairly and should not be disrupted.
Petitioners seek judicial intervention
Petitioners, however, contended that the examination’s fairness had been compromised and urged the court to intervene. They emphasized that the TGPSC is subject to judicial scrutiny and any lapses must be addressed to protect candidates’ interests.
Verdict to impact hundreds of aspirants
The High Court’s ruling paves the way for a structured re-evaluation of the results, which could significantly affect the outcome for Group-I aspirants across Telangana. Candidates and authorities alike are awaiting the completion of this process, which aims to restore transparency and fairness in the selection system.
