Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court fined Karimnagar MP and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar Rs 50,000 for repeatedly being absent from cross-examination in the dispute case against BRS minister and Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar's election in the 2018 general elections.
A Single Bench, comprising Justice Chillakur Sumalatha, imposed the fine on Bandi Sanjay Kumar, for not appearing before the advocate commissioner for the recording of his evidence. Earlier, the Telangana HC, allowed the Election Petition (EP) filed by Bandi Sanjay, where he had challenged the election of Gangula Kamalakar in the 2018 general elections.
However, Sanjay couldn’t attend the examination, claiming that he is busy attending Parliament Sessions in New Delhi, and official engagements. He said he couldn't attend Tuesday's hearing because he is out of the country and will be back on September 12.
This is not the first time Bandi Sanjay failed to appear for the examination as the Counsel for Bandi Sanjay took adjournments before the advocate commissioner on July 10, July 21, July 31, August 21, and Tuesday (September 5).
On July 10, Justice Chillakur Sumalatha appointed K Sailaja, District Judge (Retired) as the advocate commissioner for recording cross-examination of witnesses in the alleged election offences from both sides.
Justice Chillakur Sumalatha while imposing the fine of Rs 50,000, directed Bandi Sanjay to appear before the advocate commissioner and adjourned the EP to September 29.
