HC fines 14 people for misleading court in Ippattam village house demolition case

Guntur: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has pulled up 14 petitioners for misleading the court regarding the demolition of houses in Ippattam village in Guntur district. The HC judge further imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh each against the 14 persons.

On Thursday, the High Court came down heavily on the petitioners in the case of houses being demolished without notice in Ippatam village under Tadepalli mandal in Guntur. The assistant government pleader (AGP) had previously stated that notices had been served before demolition and provided proof, which led to the judge ordering the petitioners to appear on 24 November.

Out of 14 petitioners, 11 were present in the court on Thursday. The petitioners said notices were served but they were not aware of the contents and that it was not further informed to their advocate.

The judge, responding in a serious tone, said the facts were suppressed. The petitioners misled the court and got an interim order which cannot be entertained. The judge also warned advocate T. Sai Surya that the court cannot entertain such type of practice and it is their duty to verify the details.

A fine of Rs. 1 lakh was imposed against each petitioner. The amount was asked to be paid to the Legal Services Authority. The matter was disposed of without any contempt proceedings against the petitioners.
