Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Friday issued notices to state transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar in connection with the suicide of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker. Eight other TRS leaders have also been issued notices.
Sai Ganesh, the district convenor of Bharatiya Mazdoor Union, died on 16 April in a hospital in Hyderabad. After his death, local and state BJP leaders visited Khammam and alleged that it was a government-sponsored death.
The BJP leaders staged a protest in Khammam demanding action against those responsible for Ganesh's death. They had also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and state transport minister Puvvada Ajay were responsible for Ganesh's death. He said the young leader had done nothing wrong and only pointed out the irregularities of the local minister and the government corruption. As a result, 16 false cases were filed against him for exposing the TRS government's irregularities, added Bandi Sanjay.
BJP leaders also accused the police of harassing and filing illegal cases against Ganesh which led to his death. However, Vishnu Warrier, the Khammam SP, denied all allegations and said a total of nine cases have been filed against Ganesh and all of them, he said, were backed by evidence. He did not comment on the alleged involvement of TRS leaders, especially minister Puvvada Ajay.
