Heatwave Alert for Telangana: IMD warns of high temperatures in Adilabad, Jagtial districts

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Jagtial districts on March 17.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be significantly high, with dry weather prevailing across Telangana.

Speaking on the heatwave condition to NewsMeter, meteorologist KS Sridhar stated, ā€œThe rise in temperatures is due to prevailing southerly and southeasterly winds. The heatwave is likely to impact isolated pockets in northern Telangana on March 17, but no warnings have been issued for the following days.ā€

Dry weather for most of the week

According to the IMD bulletin, no major change in maximum temperatures is expected for the next two days. However, a slight drop in temperatures is forecasted from March 19 onward. The overall weather in Telangana will remain dry until March 20.

Sridhar explained, ā€œDry conditions are common during this period, especially before the transition into pre-monsoon thunderstorms. The decrease in temperature later in the week will provide some relief.ā€

Rain likely from March 21

Starting March 21, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated locations across Telangana. This pattern is expected to continue through March 23, bringing temporary relief from the heat.

Sridhar stated, ā€œThese scattered showers are a result of localised convection and increased moisture levels. While they may not significantly lower temperatures, they will bring brief cooling effects in affected areas.ā€

Hyderabad weather outlook

For Hyderabad, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with mist or haze during the morning hours.

ā€¢ Maximum temperature: 39Ā°C (March 17), expected to drop to 38Ā°C in the next 48 hours.

ā€¢ Minimum temperature: 22Ā°C, expected to decrease slightly to 21Ā°C.

ā€¢ Winds: Southeasterly, moving at 4-8 kmph.

Sridhar stated, ā€œResidents should prepare for warm and hazy mornings in Hyderabad. The drop in temperatures later in the week will be gradual but noticeable.ā€

Precautionary measures

ā€¢ People in northern Telangana districts should take precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure.

ā€¢ Farmers are advised to plan irrigation activities accordingly, as dry weather may persist until March 20.

ā€¢ Residents should stay updated on local forecasts, especially as rain approaches later in the week.

With the summer season setting in, Telangana is expected to experience fluctuating temperatures and occasional thunderstorms in the coming weeks.
