Hyderabad: When Seetha Raman and Balaji started their journey to Hyderabad from Chennai, they never thought it would be their last journey. They were killed in the fire that broke out in Ruby Hotel in Secunderabad.

Seetha Raman (48), an auditor, and Balaji (58), a businessman, at the Aachi Masala Food Private Limited came to Hyderabad from Chennai on Monday on official work.

According to sources, the audit was completed at 7:30 p.m on Monday following which they headed to Ruby Hotel. A little later, they went for dinner and after that, the tragic incident took place.

Seetha Raman and Balaji inhaled smoke and died. Their bodies were later shifted to Gandhi and Apollo Hospitals.

A total of eight people died in the fire. The other victims have been identified as Alladi Harish from Vijayawada; Veerender Kumar Devakar, Rajeev Maik, and Sandeep Malik from Delhi; and Chandan Jethi and Mithali Mahapathra from Odisha.

Telangana fire safety director-general Sanjay Kumar said the deaths were due to the victims inhaling smoke and not because of the fire or injuries or jumping off the building.

A major fire broke out at Ruby Motors, an electric bike showroom in Secunderabad, at 9:30 p.m on 12 September. The fire broke out in the building housing an electric bike showroom on the ground floor and Ruby Hotel on the top floor. Within no time, the fire engulfed the building resulting in thick smoke.
