How Telangana govt completed caste survey despite challenges: Here are excerpts from CM Revanth's PowerPoint presentation

New Delhi: Breaking his silence, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the Telangana caste survey was not easy, and there were many challenges.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy gave a PowerPoint presentation to the All India Congress Committee members to explain the challenges and hurdles faced during the caste survey.

The challenges faced were:

1) Upper castes raised doubts and objections for the survey as they felt that the opportunities would be given to the backward class sections in the changing times.

2) Highly qualified English educated people declared themselves as no caste in the survey.

3) 3.9 percent people declared that they do not belong to any caste.

4) 56 questions were in the survey form and many of them were not interested in disclosing their assets like homes, education qualifications and other personal details.

5) Many communities and people who were left out approached the government centers and got themselves enrolled in the survey.

Why is BJP objecting to the survey?

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accused the Bharatiya Janta Party for acting against the backward classes from the beginning of the caste survey in Telangana.

Reddy along with Telangana Members of Parliament and ministers is in New Delhi to pressurize the central government to give assent to the two bills passed by the state legislature. The reservation of backward class in education and employment sectors and reservation in local bodies, are pending before the central government for approval.

Time line for implementation

On the other side Telangana government has been given the timeline by the High Court to complete the implement the legislations and also conduct the local body polls in the state

In turn, the Telangana government is putting pressure on Centre to expedite the process so that that they can meet High Court deadline.

!) The conduct of local body elections must be done within 90 days by the end of September 2025.

2) The finalization of reservations must be done within 30 days which is the end of July 2025.

There is pressure on Congress-led Telangana government to fulfill these promises as it is part of the larger aspect of implementing the results of the caste census.

How will this pan out in India?

The caste census is the promise of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Its implementation in Telangana will have political outcomes that will have its impact on other states. This is now a 'political tool for the BJP' says Rahul Gandhi in his address in New Delhi to the Congress senior leaders.

Goes a step ahead with OBC reservations

On July 25, a meeting is being held on caste census and reservations for Other Backward Classes in New Delhi. Congress is going to demand reservation for them in jobs and in education.
