How Visakhapatnam police cracked the baby-abduction case within 24 hours

Visakhapatnam: Police have solved the sensational kidnap case and rescued the four-day-old baby from Srikakulam.

Five persons have been arrested so far. The accused have been identified as Yashoda, Gayatri, Geeta, Madina Lakshmi, and her husband Madina Rajesh.

Commissioner of Police Manish Kumar Sinha said Lakshmi and Rajesh from Srikakulam district got married 13 years ago and were childless. The couple came to know that Gayatri, Yashoda, and Geeta can arrange a kid if they pay money. The couple promised huge money if they arrange a female baby.

Yasoda and Gayathri went to KGH and got in contact with Gamili Prakash and Kondamma of Gamili Village. G Madugula was going to give birth to a fifth child. She promised to sell her baby if it was female. The accused paid Rs 20,000 in advance, but the baby died after the delivery and Kondamma fled. Looking for an alternative, Yasoda and Gayathri found 21-year-old M Appayamma had given birth to a baby girl on March 13. Posing as nurses, the duo took the baby from her mother on the pretext of administering a vaccine.

"CCTV cameras played a key role in cracking the case. CCTV footage near the gynecology ward showed a woman leaving with a baby. The same woman was spotted roaming suspiciously near the ward," the Commissioner said.

During the police investigation, they found that the woman dropped at Gurudwara Junction in one of the auto-rickshaw. Later, the woman boarded a cab for Maddilapalem. Police teams questioned the drivers and got the details of the woman. "We finally traced the baby in Srikakulam district and rescue her safely", said the Commissioner.
