Hyderabad: A software engineer from Hyderabad allegedly died after jumping off the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) building in Chennai on Friday night.
The NCB officials said the deceased, Rayappa Antony Raj, was allegedly involved in dealing contraband and was being questioned in the NCB office in Ayapakkam near Ambattur when he jumped to death from the building.
It was initially reported that a Customs officer who was taken into custody for interrogation by the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai jumped to death at the NCB office. However, the officials clarified that an engineer from Hyderabad was the one who died.
Antony was picked up by the NCB officials on Thursday. The officials seized his car and found five bundles of a white crystalline substance, resembling amphetamine, on him.
The incident took place when the NCB officials were reportedly taking Antony to a hospital for a medical checkup, as per procedure, before remanding him. The NCB officials rushed him to a nearby hospital but Antony did not respond to treatment and died.
The Tirumullaivoyal police have registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
