Hyderabad: Ten people including two women, lost their lives due to asphyxia after a fire broke out in a residential building in Nampally's Bazaar Guard area on Monday morning.

As per official reports, the fire originated approximately at 9:30 am, when a mechanic was conducting car repairs in the building's cellar. A spark during the repair process ignited the diesel stored in a container, leading to the rapid spread of fire. The flames intensified as chemical drums within the cellar caught fire, generating thick smoke and a subsequent massive blaze.



DCP Central Venkateshwarlu said: "Six people, including two women, succumbed due to asphyxiation. Three individuals in critical condition were swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention."

The fire department swiftly mobilized personnel equipped with ladders to rescue individuals stranded on the upper floors. Six fire tenders were deployed to combat the escalating blaze.

Authorities are actively engaged in an investigation to determine the root cause of the catastrophic fire that claimed multiple lives.

Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, expressed profound sorrow and dismay over the catastrophic fire accident that took place today at the Chemical Godown located at Bazar Ghat, Hyderabad, resulting in the tragic loss of nine human lives and severe injuries to several others. Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan directed the Chief Secretary to the Government to take immediate measures to provide comprehensive medical assistance to those who sustained injuries in the incident and also issued directives to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and furnish a comprehensive report on the circumstances leading to the fire, the response mechanisms in place, and the corrective measures that can be implemented within the next two days.

Minister KT Rama Rao announced Rs 5 lakhs ex-gratia to the deceased families.
