Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a major expansion of city bus services under the initiative ‘Hyderabad Connect’.
The expansion is expected to provide public transport access to rapidly developing colonies across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
Services are scheduled to begin this December.
7.61 lakh persons to reap benefits
The decision was finalised at a recent review meeting chaired by TGSRTC Vice Chairman and Managing Director V Nagi Reddy, IPS, following extensive transport surveys conducted in 30 circles and 150 wards on the city’s outskirts.
The initiative is expected to benefit around 7.61 lakh residents living in the newly added colonies.
Direct services to IT and employment hubs
As part of the plan, TGSRTC will operate direct buses from these colonies to key employment clusters such as HITEC City, Gachibowli, the Financial District, Uppal and surrounding zones.
Officials said this will shorten commute times for employees and software professionals while lowering daily travel costs.
373 colonies to join the bus network to employment hubs
“The primary objective of TGSRTC is to meet the growing transport needs in line with the city’s expansion. With the intention that residents of newly developed colonies in the Greater Hyderabad area should not face any transportation difficulties, we have launched the ‘Hyderabad Connect’ initiative,” said Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, while announcing the plan.
He added, “After conducting extensive field surveys and considering public requests and requirements, 373 colonies have been selected. Enhanced connectivity from these colonies to major employment centres like the IT Corridor and Financial District will save employees both time and money. The public should make use of safe RTC services instead of depending on private vehicles.”
Three-phase rollout starting in December
The ‘Hyderabad Connect’ program will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase covering the most densely populated colonies over the next two months.
The initiative also aims to reduce reliance on private vehicles, thereby lowering traffic congestion and pollution levels in the city.
Passengers will be able to track real-time bus movements through the ‘TGSRTC Gamyam’ mobile app, and digital payment options will be provided on these services.
