Hyderabad: A heartfelt appeal by Jaswanth, a seventh-grade student from Buddha Nagar, about the recurring flood waters damaging his home and schoolbooks, has spurred Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy into urgent action.

During a surprise inspection of flood-affected areas in Hyderabad, the chief minister personally heard the boy’s concerns and pledged swift and permanent solutions to the city’s persistent flooding challenges.

CM conducts surprise visit to flood-hit localities

Following two days of relentless heavy rains, Revanth Reddy on Sunday toured key neighborhoods including Buddha Nagar, Ameerpet, and Maitri Vanam to assess the impact of floods on residents.

The inspection was aimed at understanding on-ground realities and ensuring relief measures were effectively reaching affected communities.

Officials briefed on flood relief and mitigation efforts

During the visit, the Chief Minister met with officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), HMWSSB, and HYDRAA, who updated him on the flood situation and steps being taken to minimize rain-related damages. He emphasized the need to expedite efforts and strengthen preventive infrastructure.

Drainage system deficiencies demand immediate correction

At Buddha Nagar, Revanth Reddy identified a critical flaw in the drainage canal design, which was built higher than the colony road, causing water stagnation. He directed officials to urgently rectify this to restore free flow of flood waters and prevent inundation of low-lying areas.

Local complaints prompt on-spot resolution

Residents near Gan Gangubhai Basti Kunta had raised concerns about the use of adjacent spaces as parking lots, which worsened flooding. He personally inspected the area and ordered officials to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and prevent future problems.

Call for long-term flood control measures

Highlighting the need for sustainable solutions, the chief minister instructed the preparation of plans for constructing a special trunk line to effectively channel flood waters and safeguard vulnerable colonies from future inundations.
