Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman died by suicide on Friday after a man allegedly injected her with HIV-positive blood when she refused to marry him. The shocking incident was reported from Medchal district’s Pocharam IT Corridor limits.
Family members said the woman fell into severe depression after the incident.
On Friday, while her mother was in another room, she died by suicide at her residence. Her body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem and later handed over to the family.
Accused forcibly injected the blood at her home
Police said the accused, a 24-year-old transport supervisor identified as Manohar, carried out the act on March 11.
He allegedly procured a syringe, filled it with his own blood, and went to the woman’s house to once again propose marriage. When she refused, he forcibly injected the blood into her forearm and fled.
Health complications after injection
Following the incident, the woman developed pain and infection at the injection site and later suffered from fever. Her family members took her to a private hospital in Uppal, where she disclosed to doctors that the accused had forcibly injected his blood into her.
Marriage called off after medical test
The woman and the accused, who were relatives, had been in a relationship for several years, and their families had initially agreed to their marriage.
However, the alliance was called off after medical tests revealed that the man was HIV positive, a fact his family had allegedly not disclosed earlier.
Police believe the accused was unable to accept the rejection and hatched a plan, assuming that if the woman contracted the infection, she would be compelled to marry him.
Accused background
Originally from Jangaon district, the accused had been living in Hyderabad for over two decades. Investigations revealed that both his parents were HIV positive, and his father had died a few years ago.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, police arrested the accused on March 15. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
