Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman was killed and her husband sustained grievous injuries after a speeding DCM vehicle rammed into their scooty and dragged it for nearly a kilometre in Madhapur, Hyderabad, late on Saturday night.
Victim dies, husband critical
The deceased has been identified as Haniya Ayesha (22), while her husband, Abdul Basit (26) suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Doctors at AIG Hospital declared Ayesha dead.
Accident near Mindspace
According to police, the couple was riding a scooty when the DCM vehicle hit them near Mindspace in the IT hub of Madhapur. The impact threw Basit off the vehicle, but Ayesha, along with the scooty, got trapped and was dragged for nearly a kilometre.

Locals chase vehicle, cleaner caught
Passersby who noticed the horrifying incident chased the vehicle and managed to intercept it. While the driver fled the scene, locals caught the cleaner, allegedly thrashed him. He was handed over to the police.
Couple returning home
The couple, originally from Kerala, was employed at a Malabar Gold store in Hyderabad. They were returning to their residence in Maheshwaram after watching a movie in Kukatpally when the accident occurred.
Investigation underway
Police shifted the body for post-mortem examination and informed the victim’s family.
A case has been registered at Madhapur Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver. The DCM vehicle involved in the accident is reportedly registered in Karnataka.
