Hyderabad: A surprise check at Mehdipatnam Transport Office last year has blown the lid off major corruption involving a senior officer in Telangana.

For one full year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) worked on the leads and zeroed in on Deputy Transport Commissioner Mood Kishan.

It was during the tenure of the then ACB chief CV. Anand that surprise checks were carried out at the Mehdipatnam office of the transport department. The ACB gathered inputs, especially on the benami property of Mood Kishan.

On December 22, ACB searched eight locations linked to Mood Kishan, who is currently serving as Deputy Transport commissioner for Mahbubnagar district.

Sleuths were shocked to see the wealth he had amassed. The accused officer illegally owned a 50% share in Lahari International Hotel, Nizamabad; owned 3000 sq. yds. Royaloak furniture space in Nizamabad; 2 flats in Ashoka Township, Nizamabad; 31 Acres of Agricultural land under Nizampet Tahsildar Jurisdiction under Sangareddy district; 10 acres of Commercial Land in Nizamabad Municipal Limits; Polyhouse and shed in 4000 sq. ft. area in the limits of Nizampet Mandal of Sangareddy district; bank balance of Rs. 1.37 crore; gold ornaments weighing 1000.4 gms; one Honda City car; and one Innova Crysta car.

The documented value of the movable and immovable properties calculated so far is Rs 12.72 Cr. The market value, however, is much higher than the documented value.

Mood Kishan has been booked for disproportionate assets.

Kishan, a group officer, served in many units in different capacities in the Telangana Transport department. There were several allegations against him. These included demanding and accepting bribes for vehicle registrations, delaying registration, and even extortion money from vehicle owners who violated the law by registering vehicles in a different state to avoid paying high taxes.

ACB has now reissued a public advisory to seek support to curb corruption.
