Hyderabad: HYDRAA demolishes part of N-Convention owned by actor Nagarjuna

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished a huge part of N- Convention in Madhapur, owned by actor Akkineni Nagarjuna.

On Saturday early morning, the enforcement teams of HYDRAA arrived at the premises with 4-5 huge machinery to demolish the building dubbed as 'encroachment'.

The N convention centre in Hyderabad was built in the buffer zone of a lake and has been in talks since years now.

On August 21, Congress Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy wrote a letter to HYDRAA commissioner A V Ranganath against N-Convention encroachment.

"This structure is built within the FTL area, protected by a raised retaining wall towards the tank water side. This structure was constructed by raising the original ground level, thereby reducing the water spread area of the Kunta," wrote Komatireddy in the complaint letter.

He also enclosed the detailed FTL map showing the Convention within FTL and buffer zone.

Spread over 10 acres of land, the Hall has been a venue for many celebrity weddings and movie events. In 2015, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy's daughter Nymisha engagement was held. Recently, actors Varun Tej and Lavanya's wedding reception happened in this N- Convention.

According to the executive engineer (North Tank Division), the FTL area of Thammidi Kunta is 29.24 acres. N-Convention management has encroached around 1.12 acres in FTL and 2 acres in the buffer zone.

In 2014, a survey showed that the convention hall has encroached upon 1.12 acres of FTL and 2 acres of land in the buffer zone of Thammidi Kunta Lake, Madhapur. However, at that time except for a shed of the N-Convention hall facing the lake, the encroachment was neither removed by the GHMC nor management.

As a part of HYDRAA operations last week, the teams demolished over 20 under-construction structures, including Oro Sports Village, Palamuru Grill, and others on Shankarpally road at Khanapur village after declaring them as constructed illegally in the buffer zone of Osman Sagar.

The enforcement teams from the HYDRAA also demolished an under construction building, compound walls in an unauthorised layout and illegal constructions in the Erla Cheruvu in Chandanagar. Through this enforcement drive, the HYDRAA had recovered around 10 acres of land related to the Full Tank Level (FTL) capacity of Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake.

Apart from curbing encroachments and restoring lake areas, HYDRAA has placed a strong emphasis on the protection and development of municipal parks.
