Hyderabad: Acting on a tip-off, the anti-narcotics EAGLE team conducted checks at a residence in Nanakramguda and found Chadipiralla Sudheer Reddy, son of Jammalamadugu BJP MLA C. Adinarayana Reddy, positive for ganja consumption during a drug test on Saturday.

While no drugs were recovered from the premises, officials said Sudheer Reddy was shifted to a de-addiction centre for treatment, citing his prolonged depression and past involvement in drug-related cases.

Tip-off and search operation

Officials said the EAGLE Team received a phone call alerting them to suspected drug use at the house. Acting swiftly, the team carried out checks at the residence in Hyderabad.

Drug test findings

As part of the operation, drug tests were conducted on Sudheer Reddy and two of his friends who were present at the house. Sudheer Reddy tested positive for ganja, while the other two tested negative, officials said. The EAGLE team also clarified that no ganja or other drugs were seized during the search.

Previous drug cases

According to officials, Sudheer Reddy had earlier been booked twice in drug-related cases. These past incidents were taken into consideration while deciding the course of action.

Depression and substance use

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sudheer Reddy had been suffering from depression for some time. Officials said the substance use appeared to be linked to his mental health condition rather than trafficking or supply.

Shift to de-addiction centre

Following the positive test result, Sudheer Reddy was shifted to a de-addiction centre for medical care and counselling. The EAGLE team also informed his family members immediately after the detection.

Police said further action, if required, would be taken in accordance with law, while emphasising that treatment and rehabilitation were being prioritised in this case.
