Hyderabad man kills wife for wearing a 'salwar' against his wish

Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a man killed his wife for allegedly wearing a ‘Punjabi dress’ against his wish in Saroornagar on Sunday.
According to Saroornagar police, the deceased was identified as Sonu (32), hailing from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh. Sonu worked as a house maid in the locality. Her husband was identified as G Venkatesh (42), a mason, who fathered two children with Sonu.
Venkatesh reportedly often quarrelled with his wife for wearing ‘Punjabi dresses’ while she was at home. On the day of the incident, Venkatesh was allegedly involved in a verbal duel with his wife after noticing her wearing a Punjabi dress. Irked over his wife’s behaviour, Venkatesh allegedly attacked her with a knife.
Soni sustained a serious injury and died on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of police personnel from Saroornagar station rushed to the spot. Police recovered the body and shifted it to a mortuary for postmortem. Later, the deceased was handed over to their family members.
“We have registered a case on Venkatesh following the statement given by his son. In his statement, the boy said that his parents argued whenever his mother wore a Punjabi dress. Venkatesh also sustained minor injuries while killing his wife. Further investigation is on,” the police said.
