Hyderabad: Tragedy struck the Makta Mahabubpet area of Miyapur as a 26-year-old software engineer, Ishika Yadav, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her apartment. The incident comes just over a month after her marriage to Neeraj Bansal, also a software professional.

The incident came to light after police informed about it on Thursday.

What happened?

According to police, Ishika Yadav, a native of Bihar, and Neeraj Bansal, from Madhya Pradesh, met via social media in 2020. After being in a relationship for several years, the couple tied the knot with the consent of their families on February 20, 2026. They had been living in a flat in Makta Mahabubpet, Miyapur, while both worked in the IT sector.

Dowry harassment allegations

Family members of the deceased have alleged that the couple’s relationship soured shortly after the wedding. They claimed that Neeraj Bansal and his family had been subjecting Ishika to severe physical and mental harassment, demanding additional dowry. Unable to bear the alleged torture, Ishika reportedly took the extreme step of ending her life.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving information from the husband, Miyapur police rushed to the scene and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Following a formal complaint lodged by Ishika’s family members, the police have registered a case against Neeraj Bansal and his family members. Further investigation is currently underway to gather more evidence.
