Hyderabad: The Central Government has approved the widening of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada NH to a six-lane highway. The government said it is a key development aimed at enhancing travel safety and efficiency on one of the busiest routes in South India.
Officials estimate that once the six-lane project is completed, travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada will be reduced by nearly two hours, while the number of road accidents along the route is expected to decline significantly.
229 km to be developed
According to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the highway expansion will cover a 229-kilometre stretch—from the 40th km to the 269th km mark on NH-65.
The project involves upgrading the existing road to a six-lane highway. The ministry has appointed officials in both states to supervise land acquisition and related procedures.
The upgraded highway is also anticipated to boost trade and connectivity between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the coastal regions.
Land acquisition in Telangana
The land acquisition process for the project has already begun in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
In Telangana, Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) across several districts have been entrusted with overseeing land acquisition. In Yadadri–Bhuvanagiri district, land will be acquired from nine villages in Choutuppal mandal. In Nalgonda district, land will be taken from five villages each in Chityal and Narketpally mandals, four in Kattangur, two in Nakrekal, and four in Ketepally.
Similarly, in Suryapet district, RDOs will acquire land from four villages in Suryapet mandal, six in Chivvemla, four in Kodad, and five in Munagala mandals.
