The 28-year-old engineering graduate from IIT Hyderabad was motivated by her father to join Civil services

Telangana cops dream to salute UPSC qualifier daughter Uma Harathi comes true.

Hyderabad: A four-year dream came true when a police officer’s daughter cracked the UPSC examination in her fifth attempt.

"I am ready to salute my daughter if she gets posted as an IAS officer in the district I work," said N. Venkateshwarlu, Narayanpet District Superintendent of Police.

Venkateshwarl's daughter N Uma Harathi scored AIR 3 in the Civil Services examination 2022. It is like-daughter-like father where Venkateshwarlu rose from sub-inspector to Additional SP rank. He is currently SP of Narayanpet district.



The 28-year-old engineering graduate from IIT Hyderabad was motivated by her father to join Civil services.


"It is her four years fight which she won today. It was not easy at all. She failed in her first four attempts. In the fourth attempt, Uma Harathi could not clear the preliminary stage. Being more focused, this attempt, I was expecting a rank, but the AIR 3 came out to be a surprise," he told NewsMeter.

Uma Harathi, who couldn't clear the prelims in the first two attempts, managed to reach the interview stage on the third attempt. On the fourth attempt, she couldn't clear the preliminary stage. It was then she decided to take Anthropology as an optional subject instead of geography, which she had taken earlier. She dedicates her success to her family and close friends who were always supporting her.

"She did attend the coaching in New Delhi for nine months but later decided to prepare at home, following online resources. She found a peaceful and better environment," said Venkateshwarlu. She also took help from her friends who already cracked civils.

Speaking about how dedicated her daughter was, Venkateshwarlu said, "She is an expert in Yoga, and loves cooking. These hobbies give her mental peace."

In the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam results, Ishita Kishore has secured the All India Rank (AIR) 1, followed by Garima Lohia at AIR 2, and Uma Harathi N AIR 3. As many as 933 candidates including 613 men and 320 women have cleared the exam. In the top stood 25, in which 14 are women and 11 are men.

Over 40 aspirants from the Telugu states cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam.
