Hyderabad: Telangana government is mulling crediting 10-15 percent of employees’ salaries directly to their elderly parents’ accounts.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday proposed to examine the feasibility of crediting 10-15 percent of employees’ salaries directly to their elderly parents’ accounts.

The move is aimed at strengthening family-based elder care. The Chief Minister observed that many working individuals are neglecting their aged parents despite financial stability.

Assam’s model as reference

Referring to the existing model in Assam, where such deductions are implemented, Revanth Reddy directed officials to study similar initiatives in other states and prepare a detailed report for consideration.

Focus on inclusive welfare

The Chief Minister’s proposal came during a high-level review meeting on welfare schemes for women, children, persons with disabilities, transgender persons, and senior citizens. Ministers Danasari Anasuya, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Adluri Laxman participated in the meeting.

Transgender Inclusion in Government Departments

Revanth Reddy instructed officials to identify opportunities to employ transgender persons in various departments, including the Traffic Police, Transport, Endowments, Medical and Health, IT, and corporate sectors, to promote social inclusion and economic empowerment.

Policies for Telangana Rising-2047 Vision Document

Emphasising holistic welfare, he said policies for women, children, the disabled, and the elderly should be formulated and incorporated into the Telangana Rising-2047 vision document.

He asked officials to examine the issue of marriages among the disabled and propose incentives and benefits under government schemes. A report is to be submitted before the next Cabinet meeting.

Anganwadi centres to be upgraded

Highlighting the importance of early childhood care, the Chief Minister directed officials to upgrade Anganwadi centres into national models, providing nutritious food and pre-primary education to children up to the age of five, who would then transition directly to government schools.

Advanced container-based designs for Anganwadis

He suggested adopting container-based designs with solar panels and battery backups for constructing new Anganwadi centres, making them cost-effective, sustainable, and suitable for young children’s needs.

Mobile Anganwadis for urban poor

To support children from urban slums and migrant worker families within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Revanth Reddy proposed setting up mobile Anganwadi centres that would deliver nutritious meals at scheduled times through dedicated vehicles.
