Hyderabad: The long-pending dream of an airport at Adilabad would be realised in the coming months as the Indian Air Force (IAF) has given its nod for the facility, said minister for Roads and Buildings (R&B) Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Venkat Reddy said that the Telangana government, which had earlier obtained permission for Mamnoor Airport, has now obtained permission from the Indian Air Force for Adilabad Airport. Obtaining approvals for two airports within a short period of six months is the result of the tireless efforts of the Telangana government, he said.
IAF to provide civil aviation services
The minister further said that the IAF has expressed its willingness to develop Adilabad Airport and provide civil aviation services to the Telangana State Government, following a letter written on December 18, 2024. Apart from that, the IAF also said that it would consider the possibility of establishing an Air Force training centre there in the future.
Reddy also said that the Air Force has suggested that this airport be developed as a joint user airfield to accommodate both civil aviation and Air Force aircraft movements.
Works related to reconstructing the runway, establishing a civil terminal and developing other infrastructure such as an aircraft apron to accommodate the movement of civilian aircraft would be taken, he said, and added that Air Force officials have suggested in a letter that the necessary land be provided to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The Airports Authority of India has requested the Indian Air Force to submit detailed proposals to obtain all necessary permissions for the airport. A report with all the details will be prepared very soon and submitted to the Centre and the relevant departments, the minister said.
Venkat Reddy also thanked prime minister Narendra Modi, Union Civil Aviation minister K Ramamohan Naidu for supporting the Telangana Government and granting permissions for developing airports at Mamnoor and Adilabad and improving air connectivity in the State.
