New Delhi: The Postal Department has announced the suspension of booking and transmission of mails to the U.S., except for documents and gift items valued up to $100, starting August 25.

As per a notice issued by the Department of Posts, this decision comes in the wake of new regulatory changes introduced by the U.S. Administration under Executive Order No. 14324, which will come into effect from August 29, 2025. Accordingly, the acceptance and dispatch of all categories of postal articles addressed to the United States—other than documents/letters and gifts not exceeding USD 100 in value—will remain suspended until further notice.

The suspension has become unavoidable as U.S.-bound airlines and carriers have conveyed their inability to transport postal consignments without clearly established mechanisms for duty collection and data exchange mandated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Department of Posts has stated that it is keeping a close watch on the matter and is actively working to restore postal services to the U.S. at the earliest opportunity. Meanwhile, in cases where items have already been booked but could not be dispatched, customers will be eligible to claim a refund of the postage charges.
