INKWASH 3.0: Covestro receives prestigious WASH Stewardship Award for safe sludge disposal

Hyderabad: Covestro India Pvt. Ltd. was felicitated with the prestigious WASH Stewardship Award at InkWash 3.0 for providing solutions for safe sludge disposal to facilitate biosolids management. The award was given to Covestro in the presence of IT and industries minister KTR.

Covestro collaborates with relevant partners to provide technology that will provide class A certified biosolids through universally compatible materials which are based on solar greenhouse dryers. It aims to enable true circularity, affordability, and accessibility in the area of faecal sludge management (FSM) and transform FSM plants into real-time resource centres. Covestro hopes that its innovative work in the sector will act as a guide towards a more sustainable and scientific, data-based policy formulation, which is the need of the hour, for safe sludge disposal in India.

With these innovative solar sludge pasteurisation solutions by Covestro and its partners, safe sanitation has become a reality for communities in the states of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, and Maharashtra. InkWash 3.0, a two-day event held in Hyderabad from 5 to 6 May 2022, brought together decision-makers from the sanitation sector, including local and national policymakers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs.

Veeralakshmanan Bagavathi, the head of inclusive business, sustainability – ISC & SEA, said, "Sustainability is in the very DNA of Covestro, and it is our privilege to be able to provide innovative, affordable and accessible solutions for the faecal sludge management sector, which in turn is a right step towards a more circular economy.
