IPS Dr Jitender is the new DGP of Telangana; Congress govt marks its 1st DGP appointment

Hyderabad: In a sudden reshuffle, the Congress Government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has appointed senior IPS officer Dr Jitender as the new Director General of Police of the state. In this regard the current DGP IPS officer Ravi Gupta has been posted as Special Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department.

The appointment of IPS officer Dr Jitender , has marked the first DGP appointed by the government since the Congress party came to power in Telangana.

The senior officer has served in many departments including the current as Principal Secretary to the Home Department and also holds the position of Director of Vigilance and Enforcement, managing additional responsibilities.

Dr Jitender- known as a non controversial officer and as a docile person grew from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Director General of Police.

He has a humble beginning, he was born into a farming family in Jalandhar, Punjab. Jitender cracked UPSC Examination in 1992 and chose IPS from Andhra Pradesh cadre.

His career began as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Nirmal district of Telangana. He then served as Additional SP in Bellampally and held significant roles as the SP of Mahbubnagar and Guntur districts during times of high Naxalite activity.



Jitender's extensive experience includes working with the Delhi CBI and the Greyhounds from 2004 to 2006. He was later promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and took on responsibilities in Visakhapatnam.
