Guntur: The Nagarampalem police in Guntur registered an ā€˜attempt to murderā€™ case against former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and two IPS officials, and then CID chief PV Sunil Kumar and Intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu.

An FIR was issued by the police based on the complaint filed by TDP Undi MLA and then MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju. The police have filed a case under the sections 120B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465 and 508(34). Police invoked the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as the case is three years old.

Sunil Kumar has been named the Accused No 1 (A1) in the case. PSR Anjaneyulu has been named A2, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy named A3, then additional superintendent of police, CBCID R Vijay Paul has been named A4 and Dr Prabhavati has been named A5 in the case.

Case details

In his complaint, Raghurama Krishnam Raju said that on May 14, 2021, he was arrested by the CID officers in Hyderabad. He said that neither did they produce him before the local magistrate in Hyderabad nor obtained a transit arrest warrant and shifted him to CID Office, Guntur.

Raghurama Krishnam Raju accused the former CM and the senior officials of "plotting" a criminal "conspiracy" against him. He alleged that certain police officers PV Sunil Kumar IPs along with Seetharamanjaneyulu IPS and other police subordinates came into the CBCID office and beat him with a rubber belt and lathi and was not even allowed to take medicines in respect of his heart ailment under the direct orders of then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

They know pretty well that I have undergone a bypass surgery of the heart. Some persons sat on my chest, applied pressure and thereby attempted to kill me. Meanwhile, my phone was taken away and I was beaten till I disclosed its password to open it, he said.

"I was arrested without due process, including the absence of a medical examination or adherence to proper legal procedures...I was kept in the CB-CID office, Guntur from 9:30 pm onwards (May 14, 2021). I was not given my medicine despite having had an open heart bypass surgery," Raju, who was an YSRCP MP from Narasapuram, claimed.

Raju also alleged that when the Magistrate had sent him to Guntur Government General Hospital, the then superintendent of the hospital, Prabhavathi, had colluded with Sunil Kumar to create false medical reports that no injuries were inflicted on his person.

"Due to police brutality, I was shifted from Guntur to Secunderabad Army Hospital by the orders of the Supreme Court and thereafter I was granted bail by the Supreme Court," said Raju. The bail came a week later.

Among other allegations, he demanded that a case be registered against all the accused persons and said in his complaint that "these criminal offences must be addressed promptly and justice be done."

For several months preceding his arrest, Raju was accused of abusing the then CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on a daily basis through select media houses from Delhi and Hyderabad.

Reacting to the FIR, PV Sunil Kumar took to X (formerly Twitter) on the charges and wrote: ā€œI leave it to your wisdom to understand how an FIR can be filed anew in a case that has already been dismissed by the Supreme Court after three years of proceedings.ā€
