Hyderabad: Jagan attends Nampally Court hearing in DA case after six years
Hyderabad: YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appeared before the CBI Special Court on Thursday in connection with the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.
This was Jagan’s first physical appearance in the court in nearly six years. He had last appeared before the court on January 10, 2020, when he was the Chief Minister.
Jagan arrived in Hyderabad from Vijayawada and proceeded directly to the Nampally Court for the hearing. After completing the questioning, he left for his residence at Lotus Pond.
Jagan has been out on bail in this case since September 2013. Recently, he sought an exemption from personal appearance, but the CBI strongly objected, noting that he had not appeared in person for the past six years.
Jagan sought an exemption from court hearing
In September 2025, the court granted permission for him to go to Europe for 15 days in October. While giving permission, the court ordered him to appear before the court on November 14. After he returned from foreign countries, he filed a memo and sought an exemption citing several reasons.
The agency argued that since the discharge petitions are being heard daily, his presence is required. Following this, the court directed him to appear in person by November 21. In compliance with the order, Jagan attended the hearing a day early.
The Nampally Court has scheduled the next hearing for November 28, while the discharge petition filed by him remains pending.
What is the 2011 case about?
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on August 17, 2011, for offences under Sections 120-B, 409, 420 and 477A of IPC and Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) and (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The allegations in the case quid pro quo during the tenure of his late father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, as Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009.
He was arrested in May 2012 and was remanded to judicial custody. Later, he was given bail in September 2013. The CBI has investigated the case and filed 11 chargesheets between 2012 and 2014.
