BR Ambedkar Konaseema: Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the treatment of two-and-a-half-year-old girl Honey who is suffering from rare Gaucher's disease.

Gaucher's disease affects a person's bones and liver due to the building up of fatty substances, causing enlargement of the organs. Gaucher is a rare disease and there are only 14 such cases in India. Andhra Pradesh is the first state in the country to provide treatment for the disease in a government hospital.

The announcement follows Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to the flood-affected areas of the Konaseema district. Honey's parents were seen holding a placard during his visit. Noticing it, the Chief minister stopped the convoy and reached out to the parents. The CM assured complete medical assistance to the child. He did not promise only funds for treatment but also assured them to take care of her education.

"At least 52 injections have to be administered to the girl, which costs Rs 1.25 lakh each. The government coordinated with the injection manufacturer and secured the first lot of 13 to commence the girl's treatment", said district collector Himanshu Shukla.

He handed over the first set of 13 injections to the girl's family at the government area hospital in Amalapuram for her treatment.

The district collector submitted a proposal to the government on required funds, and accordingly, a sum of Rs one crore was sanctioned for the treatment of Gaucher's disease.
